In the last sunny weekend of October (last week) we went to this tiny island in South Holland: The Island of Tiengemeten. It’s very very close to the city of Rotterdam and you can get there by ferry from a small place called Nieuwendijk (or by waterbus from Rotterdam!) No cars are allowed at the island and only 10 people live there.
Nature on the island is being preserved by @natuurmonumenten The island is perfect for hiking, biking, running, birding, photographing, chilling… Just beautiful! Park your car at the parking lot of Nieuwendijk, jump on the 10 min. ferry for 6 euro per person (return) and stay for a day or 2 or 3. On the island you can stay on the campsite of Tavern Tiengemeten. This campsite is a perfect real natural spot between trees. You need to bring a green card to be allowed to camp there! (or buy it at the tavern) Check out the museum or one of the 2 restaurants on the island. We can really recommend enjoying the terrace of the Tavern Tiengemeten on a sunny day. Totally awesome was to have our morning coffee on a private spot on the dam behind the tavern. Just been chillin there watching so many sailing boats passing by. Super cool!!! >>> I love to check this place out in wintertime!
Make sure you don’t bring too much stuff or bring a bike/ trolley/ whatever to carry your camping equipment to the tavern quite a walk from the boat stop to the tavern (or just call for a shuttle at arrival).
