One of the frosty weeks of February, me and my sister went winter camping in The Netherlands. Normally, winters don’t get really cold in our small country, but this year temperatures just keep dropping below zero degrees Celsius during the night. Still, we wanted to go out camping as we were able to try out a rooftop tent of Opjeautoslapen.nl. Super cool, but it was cold!!! #Pete Gone Camping Netherlands
Pete Gone Camping Netherlands: comfort in the middle of natural Drenthe
I will soon tell/ show you everything about camping with a rooftop tent, but all about this campsite first. Which was really a gem giving us pure comfort. ‘ All year campsites’ in The Netherlands are not very hard to find when you know where to search. And this can be done at websites like www.natuurkampeerterreinen.nl/en. We picked campsite the Voscheheugte because it was basically the only place where we wouldn’t have to expect rain + cold and because of their promising reviews. The place can be found in Drenthe, which is a province of The Netherland. Drenthe is equal to: rural landscapes, beautiful forests, tranquility and very nice people. To camp on the campsite of the Voscheheugte, you need a so called ‘green guide’. If you don’t own it already, you can simply buy one on the campsite. Or when you’re planning ahead, you can also order it online here.
Amazing facilities and food
This place offers lots of great facilities you’ll really enjoy when going outdoors in the winter: a small restaurant (with perfect food!) on the campsite, free wifi, a public kitchen with laundry machine, water boiler, coffee maker, sink, games, floor heating :)) free bikes for your use and a super new and clean sanitary building with rain (!!!!) showers. Really a perfect place when you’re not able to stay nice and comfy inside your tent or camper (like us). Staying over at the campsite on a first Sunday of the month? Then chances are that you will be surprised by live music in the restaurant. Snuggle around the fire place with a nice glass of red wine and enjoy …. When staying over at the Voscheheugte, make sure to experience the atmosphere and (at least some of) the food in the small restaurant. Food from the lunch and dinner menu is finger-licking good (make sure to reserve your table for the evening), the high tea you can get is amazing and the breakfast here is a true treat when you’re out camping.
Beautiful hiking trails close-by
On top of all the goodies of this campsite, the camping hosts are super nice too: Ruben and Chantal. Ready to provide you with tips about all the best places around and to point you the sweetest hiking trails only steps away from the campsite. They even offer you to buy fire wood and borrow a fire pot. The natural setting and situation of the campsite is really worth mentioning. We woke up with two Scottish Highlanders next to our camp spot and I can only imagine how beautiful the camping field looks in spring and summer. The area is impressive and a perfect place for those who love hiking, biking, horse riding and just anything you want to do close to nature. Don’t feel like sleeping in a tent for once? Then rent one of their gorgeous huts.BOOK NOW
